eHealth Literacy Among College Students: A Systematic Review With Implications for eHealth Education

J Med Internet Res. 2011 Dec 1;13(4):e102

In this article, the authors studied six articles and one doctoral dissertation to find out the eHealth literacy of college students – that is – their capability to locate, use and evaluate electronically available health information. They observed that although college students are comfortable with using the Internet to find health information, their eHealth literacy skills are not upto the mark. They feel that college students, especially in the health and medical professions, need specialized training to upgrade such skills.
What is even more interesting is that students surveyed rated themselves from good to excellent at such skills, but their scores in tests to evaluate them were poor!
