International Day of Happiness

20th March – International Happiness Day

International happiness day is celebrated on 20th March Every Year.

Would you believe that right now, in PubMed, the number of articles covering happiness is just over 5000, while the number of articles covering depression is over 2,60,000?? Shouldn’t something be done about this?

This year, the theme of International Happiness Day is on holistic concepts like keeping calm, staying wise, and being kind. 2020 has been hard on all of us, and our health professionals are no exception. With long hours and increased susceptibility to the COVID virus, health professionals have come forward to help society move forward at the risk of their own lives.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our health professionals, and to remind them to take care of their happiness. The time given to us on this earth is limited, and all of us not only deserve the opportunity to spend it as mindfully as possible, but also make a decision ourselves to do so.

A major factor for happiness for health professionals is for them to take care of both professional AND personal lives. As contributors to society’s overall welfare, they have to take care of themselves first. Even with the inevitable long working hours, endless consultations, and the sheer workload, you CAN focus on yourselves. So, on this day, let us take a moment to love yourselves.
To further this end, we have collected some valuable resources on the social implications of happiness and how you, a health professional, can also make time for yourself and your self-care. We hope this is of help to you.
