Getting ready a generation of students who are better prepared for their PG thesis

Approximately about a decade ago when we started teaching literature searching, I used to say that this should be taught to all PG students. A niece of mine – who had just started her BDS, one day told me that we should seriously consider starting at the UG level. She emphasized – “When we start our PG program, we start seeing patients. We want to be practitioners. And our days are filled. As for medical graduates it is probably even more hectic for them. You teach UG students – they are at the learning stage – and will absorb anything relevant to medicine / dentistry and related topics.”

As the years went by, we had several opportunities to teach UG students – at various UG conferences and more. And my niece was right. UG students just lapped up our teaching and loved learning. And yet – when I spoke about this to faculty and practitioners, some agreed and some felt that the UG stage was too early.

Moving on to our Online Courses – it has again not been easy to get UG students involved in learning. So recently we hit upon this idea. We encourage them to give a token donation of Rs. 250/- to our Foundation and provide them with full access. And then – we offer prizes of Rs 250/-, Rs 500/- and Rs 1000/- if they fulfill certain learning conditions – all detailed on this page

If you know one or more UG students in any health sciences stream, do share this blog post with them. Do encourage them to enrol. Together let us get UG students of all health sciences streams to learn literature searching and referencing before they start their postgraduate programs. Let us build a new generation of health professionals!
