QMedCONNECT: Highlights of August 2020

From our Founder's Desk

Welcome to our August newsletter!

Last month we had mentioned that we had 1429 registrants on www.qmedcourses.in It was nice to have these numbers in just 1.5 months of our launch. This number included individual registrants and institutional registrants.

This month our numbers have gone up to 1540. The new registrants have all been individuals. We are happy to see this growth. We are also happy that at least three people had mentoring sessions with me for correct search strategies for authoring systematic or rapid reviews. One young doctor worked on his search strategy after having studied the relevant videos in our PubMed tutorial - the Advanced Section and then refined it after a video call, where I gave specific inputs on his strategy. Another researcher also had a similar session and is in the process of finalizing his strategy. A young dentist asked for guidance and has promised that she and her co-authors would go through the relevant videos, formulate their strategy together and then come back for a guidance session.

I think three people approaching us for such mentoring is a lovely development. It feels good to "teach them to fish"!

We are also happy to share that participants of our courses include people from all streams - medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, nutrition, pharmacy and more. This month we had one webinar for pharmacists and one for MSc and PhD students of Science too. I feel grateful that we are reaching out to all!

Don't wait any longer. Scroll down and read some of our recent testimonials. Go to www.qmedcourses.in and register. You will contribute to your own learning and the improvement of research, academics. publications and practice in India!

Webinar Sagas - Coping with technological and pandemic challenges in 2020!

Webinar Sagas - Coping with technological and pandemic challenges in 2020!

With the advent of the lockdown, between May 2020 and today I have been invited to do a number of webinars. Six to be exact, till date. In the earlier days I had done about two or three over some years. They were sponsored by the industry and done with the involvement of professional camera people and settings. However in the pandemic times, the organizers in five out of six cases did not involve people who were adept in this area.

I must commend the way institutions have taken to arranging webinars and that some of them have opened the attendance to the world in general. However this has its tough and funny elements too :)

The first webinar during the lockdown was for FINE - Forum for Indian Neurology Education. On this day my Internet connection at home was a bit poor and so some parts of the webinar were probably not too clear. And at the request of the organizer I had actually created screen capture recordings of two topic searches, but these simply would not display well or be heard well enough :( On my side I offered to re-record the webinar and pass on the recording to the organizers so that they could share it with all, but they did not wish to impose further on me.

The second was for the DY Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune. This time, the institution ran into a technical hitch with broadcasting the webinar. Quite a few people missed the beginning. From this one I learnt that if our team organizes one, we must know what all can go wrong and do our best to avoid such issues.
