From our CEO

Does this picture make me look like a Queen? Well it definitely made me feel like one! On the 17th of October I was presented the "Dr SR Ranganathan Lifetime Achievement Award" by the LIS Academy, Bengaluru . The award was presented at their Annual Conference - LISACON 2024, held at the Bharatidasan Universisty, Tiruchirapalli. I was given this award for "Honoring the integrity, innovation and transformative contributions to the Medical Information Systems".

A week before, the President of the LIS Academy - Dr PV Konnur called me and I was pleasantly surprised when he told me that I was selected for this award. Every librarian studies about Dr SR Ranganathan and about his works. Dr Ranganathan is considered the "Father of Library Sciences" and his works are known world over. Librarians in India, celebrate the birthday of this great soul every year.

For me personally, while I have participated in several celebrations, I have always carried the thought that as an Indian I must contribute to the profession just as he did. (The quantum might vary, but the efforts need not). And that is how I have worked ever since I joined this profession which I love.

When I got this call from Dr Konnur, I almost had to pinch myself to make sure it was not a dream! The words in the citation say it all -

"The LIS Academy is proud to present this special commemoration as Mrs Vasumathi Sriganesh is honored today for living up to the goals and principles of this prestigious Dr S. R. Ranganathan Lifetime Achievement Award on the Seventeenth Day of October 2024"

I now have the responsibility of continuing to live up to this - for the rest of my life! And when I have my wonderful team at QMed, backing me up ALL the time - the challenges that come our way never appear to be too tough to handle!

Our needs are actually not major. We only wish that the Commissions and Councils - the National Medical Commission, the ICMR, the Indian Institutes of Public Health, the Dental Council of India, the Indian Nursing Council and all related academic and research bodies value our contribution by integrating it in their learning curriculum which will lead to improved health outcomes across the nation.
