QMedCONNECT Newsletter: February 2015

Dear friends

February has been a really wonderful month. We really got the feeling that our efforts are beginning to show impact. We have always  had excellent feedback for our workshops & lectures, but when they move beyond, we know “we are making a difference”. This month we had two PG students sent to us by their Department Head – to plan their literature searching well in advance for an article they were going to write.  A team of doctors contacted us for help with a systematic review. A new PG student from another city said that she wanted to learn how to search, well in advance of her starting her thesis, and we did the workshop through Google Hangout. Such changes make me glow – I do hope our skills reach out, make a difference and create an impact in lots more people!

We also made a milestone this month – when we figured we have delivered more than 50 lectures in one single year – the highest so far!  I was also delighted when Dr Sushant Shinde, a young consultant who conducts special teaching sessions for MBBS students – through his new venture – Quest Medical Academy –  invited me to deliver a lecture to his group. Dr Sushant had attended one of our workshops, and felt the importance of it for students. Then, the UG students of Rajiv Gandhi Medical College, Kalwa invited me to deliver a lecture as part of their state level event  for UG students – “Zenith 2k15″. Overall a fantastic month!

Then I had the opportunity of attending a very unusual Colloquium – “Spiritual care in Palliative and End of Life Care” organized by a Bangalore based Hospice – Karunashraya. The colloquium raised a lot of questions on the topic and the interactions were excellent. A visit and tour of Karunashraya had me close to tears – seeing a dedicated team offering palliative care with smiles on their faces! I am blessed to have visited this centre and I hope that any guidance we offer them (they need help creating access to information resources) will be helpful to their work.

Participant Feedback

• “This is an excellent introduction to really good way of training minds to evaluate, study, write and infer from the clinical materiaal that we handle daily. MUHS has RM workshops made compulsoru for students. This should be included in them. Also they should be a part of UG curriculum”. – Dr Shilpa Domkundwar, Grant Medical College, Mumbai

• “I was completely lost in search of details about topic. It surely will make searching easier. Thanks a lot for saving precious time. Simple, concise, yet helpful”. – Dr Nithin, Grant Medical College, Mumbai
